In a recent Senior Times podcast, Mairead Robinson spoke to Professors John Nolan and Ríona Mulcahy, authors of a landmark Irish study (The Re-MIND Trial) revealing a food supplement can slow the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
The Re-MIND Trial sought to determine how supplementing with omega-3 fatty acids and carotenoids affected the mild-to-moderate stage of Alzheimer’s disease’s natural course. The trial also showed changes in quality of life, with caregivers reporting improvements in memory, mood, and the ability to carry out daily activities for the patients on the active intervention compared to placebo. A slower disease progression was observed in the patients receiving the active intervention.
